The Web Publishing 102 workshop will show attendees how to organize articles on their web site into different sections, how to create static pages, and how to work with photographs and images.

  • Attendee will be able to create static pages, create sections using tags and will be able to add photographs to their web site.

  • Login to WordPress.
  • Create Contact Us page.
  • Edit Contact Us page.
  • Delete Contact Us page.
  • Tag Hello, World article.
  • Create lorem ipsum article.
  • Tag lorem ipsum article.
  • Create sticky post.
  • Create Flickr account.
  • Install Flickr uploader.
  • Upload a photograph.
  • Create an article that includes a photograph.

  • Understanding when it is okay to change an article.
  • The difference between folders and tags.
  • Understanding the value of tagging for techonrati and search.

[edit] Procedure

  1. Login to WordPress.
  2. Navigate to list of pages.
  3. Create and save a Contact Us page.
  4. Edit and save the Contact Us page.
  5. Delete page.
  6. Tag Hello, World! article with tag Testing.
  7. Go to http://lipum.com/
  8. Create lorem ipsum article tagged with Testing, Greeking, and Lorem Ipsum.
  9. Navigate to Testing tag and Lorem Ipsum tag.
  10. Create article Greeking tagged Greeking marked sticky.
  11. Navigate to tag Greeking.
  12. Register for Flickr.
  13. Install Flickr uploader.
  14. Download two photographs to the desktop.
  15. Upload those photographs.
  16. Navigate to photograph view.
  17. Size photograph to small size.
  18. Insert image into an article.
  19. Link to Flickr page from article.
  20. Tag the Flickr photograph Web Publishing Workshop.
  21. View Web Publishing Workshop tag in Flickr.

[edit] Assessment

Attendees will have created and deleted a Contact Us page. They will have created a channel called Greeking with a sticky post. They will have inserted a photograph into an article from Flickr and have tagged that photograph on Flickr.

Attendees will be asked to tag future and previous articles in their web sites.

[edit] Install Flickr Uploader

For Windows XP, 2000, ME & 98.

  • Run the installation program.
  • To start the program, open the start menu and choose All Programs, then Flickr Uploadr, then Flickr Uploadr.

For Macintosh OS X.

  • Double-click on FlickrUploadr-2.2.dmg to open it.
  • Drag and drop the FlickrUploadr to your Applications folder.
  • Double-click Flickr Uploadr to start the program.

When you first run the Flickr Uploadr, you will be asked to authenticate the Flickr Uploadr. When you authenticate the Flickr Uploadr you set it up so that it will upload pictures to your Flickr photo stream.

  • When you first open the Flickr Uploadr a dialog appears with the text Flickr Uploadr requires your authorization before it can upload photos to Flickr. Click the Authorize button.
  • Your web browser will open to a web page at Flickr. It will ask you if you want to authorize Flickr Uploadr to access your account. Click OK, I'll Allow It.
  • When you return to the Flickr Uploadr you will see a dialog box that says Return to this window after you have finished the authorization process on Flickr.com. Click the Continue button.

You are now ready to use the Flickr Uploadr to upload files to your Flickr account.

Bullet lists are blocks. Before you start a bullet list, you must add a blank line. In order to keep items in the same bullet list, make sure you do not place blank lines between list items. Make sure that you add a space between the asterisk and the text of the list item.

You can created nested bullet lists as well. For nest a list item you add an additional asterisk.

Place the address of a Flickr (or any) image between exclamation points displays the image on the page.

Place a colon followed by the address of the Flickr photo page after the last exclamation point to link the image to the Flickr photo page.

Adding the word "right" or "left" between the first exclamaion point and the address will align the image.
