Alert - Join the Uptown Google Group to get in touch and stay informed!
This page is under a major restructuring. You have to get in touch with me via the Uptown Google Group to change it. I tried to keep up with the NOLA.com forums, but it was too difficult to pick Uptown specific information out of that mess.
Please take a moment to learn about Who We Are and Our Mission.

This site is a model for other Think New Orleans Katrina recovery communities. We went out and choose the best free web resources, and are prepare to get people set up to use them to reconnect, organize, and rebuild New Orleans.
[edit] Do a Head Count
Everyone here? Everyone go check in at Family Messages. It's a place where you can say you're okay, or ask about someone else.
Best of all, each name gets a message box, so you can keep in touch until you get e-mail.

Get back in touch. Go create a new e-mail address at Yahoo! or Hotmail.

[edit] Create New Pages
It's easy to create a new page, we can create as many pages as necessary.
You might want to create...
- An FAQ page.
- A list of important contact information.
- An evacuation story, success story, or other personal experience.
Ask your Community Guide to Set You Up with however many pages you need.
[edit] Join the Google Group
I've created a Google Group. It is an e-mail message group and a web forum, so you can get at it even when you're away from e-mail and only have the web (which might be an issue.)
Follow this link to join the list. Please introduce yourself.
Your messages are stored and you will be able to search them, and link to them, and if there is a good informative post, I can add a link from the Xavier Wiki page.
Need a list for a community within the Xavier community. Ask your Community Guide to Set You Up.
[edit] Create a Blog
A blog is a web log. It's a public journal. We can set you up with a blog so you can chrnoicle your recovery experience. Go goin the Uptown Google Group and ask for a blog.
Blogs are great for when you've got a bit of information, but no one in particular to tell it to. You put it on your blog and let people find it.
Blog entries all have their own page, so a really informative blog entry can be linked to from this Wiki Page.
Or send a message to your Community Guide to Set You Up.

46. Jefferson Avenue neighbors by nolagrlstill, 9/6/05 0:41 ET Any neighbors on Jefferson Avenue in Uptown from about the 2000 block to Claiborne and upriver to Nashville are welcome to e-mail nolagrl4ever@yahoo.com ... we currently have 12 neighbors from that area (and a bit north of Claiborne and glad to have them) sharing information as we get it by e-mail and can perhaps coordinate when we get to return briefly and then again when we return for good.
Raphael Howell Nashville Ave. Does anyone happen to know when people are gonna be able to go back to uptown?

Re: Milan Lounge by Trudge, 9/3/05 20:47 ET - I didn't get there specifically, but everything in the area is good other than trees down. I'm sure it's OK There really isn't any looting around there. Believe me, I'm ready to get back and have a beer when it's open. I did go around the block by St. George's and it was good down there too. But even at St. Charles everything was ok as far as looting is concerned.
Re: Nelson by Trudge, 9/3/05 20:43 ET Sorry not much I can do there for now. It's underwater from what i've seen and heard. I have a close friend who lives over across from the seminary and if I can get there I will be happy to supply information. In addition there are additional security checkpoints so it will be difficult even when the water is gone for a while.
3000 St. Charles, Charles House by aaroon, 9/3/05 20:43 ET - Anybody been on the river side of St. Charles between 7th and 8th and have info on if it is dry after the levee break? email sylviasterne@cablespeed.com
3000 St. Charles by Trudge, 9/3/05 20:58 ET
Didn't make it down that far. But from what I have seen of the general area I'd bet it is OK. there were residents walking around after the storm and St. Charles was generally good everywhere I saw it. I don't think you have too much to worry about.
RE: Laurelstreet #14239 by Daisycat, 9/3/05 20:39 ET Sorry, I finally got out of the house for a few hours. Bought and packaged some hygiene items to drop off at a relief station for refugees and THEN HAD A BIG MARGARITA! Whew! I needed it! I've been spending 18 hour days at the computer. Anyway, you're just a few blocks from Drew, and that area is fine. He's seen nothing but minor roof damage and fences going down. So even if I can't confirm your specific block, I wouldn't worry. As Trudge has said, things are quiet. I think everyone from this part of Uptown can pretty much breathe a sigh of relief and be very thankful that their homes escaped the fate of so many of their fellow citizens!
Re; South Tonti Jena Cadiz by garymeister, 9/3/05 20:38 ET
As mentioned elsewhere: right across street on S. Tonti were two survivors who were present on site until THurs am, when rescued by neighbor with canoes.
Monday after storm, no flooding whatsoever. Tues after levee break, water eventually rose reportedly to eight feet on street level, thus, several feet inside house. See IMAGE for photo of neighborhood, including 4501 taken WED 8/31/05. Start at Fountainbleau and Napoleon at upper left of photo; top of photo faces EAST. 4501 S. Tonti roof appears totally intact, water seen in street; raised front yard / driveway not visible, but under water.

Re: 3340 Canal Street/Jeff Davis by lostmydogs, 9/3/05
I read this post and thought it may help you:If you have a pet stranded in the hurricane area, call the ASPCA hotline at (212) 876-7700, ext. 4700 or emailDISASTER@ASPCA.ORG . They WILL call you back and they WILL go to save your animal(s)! They need complete info - the location of the animal, its breed and color, the name and contact info for the owner or their representative if they can't be contacted directly. Also let them know if the property is flooded or damaged, if you know. Pets will be tagged and taken to a temporary shelter in Gonzalez LA under the auspices of the LA SPCA. There is currently no working phone number for the shelter or the LA SPCA but watch their web site at http://www.la-spca.org/ for updated contact info. Noah's Wish http://www.noahswish.org/ is also doing pet rescue in NOLA and environs and will be cooperating with the SPCA. Animals that were already at the LA SPCA shelter in New Orleans BEFORE the storm were moved to the Houston TX SPCA shelter on Friday 8/27. Don't give up hope for your pet! Call the ASPCA and they WILL do all they can to save animals stranded by the hurricane and reunite them with owners.
7822 St Charles by Trudge, 9/3/05 20:05 ET - Not sure who it was, but I managed to take a picture, but it was fine from what I could see.

Spruce and Carrolton by michaelsmama, 9/3/05 20:01 ET - Hi. Located the exact location on an aerial view. All of the homes in the first block of Spruce (8000 Block) appear to be in good shape. All roofs look to be intact and I do not believe there is a tree on top of the houses. There is (was) water, though. The good news on that is my neighbor left her car in the driveway and I could see the whole thing (hood, trunk) and it is not a big car. So, I think there may have been a foot or two and the houses are all raised off of the ground. So, I don't think the water was high enough. Also, two blocks away there was no water so it's not like it was 4 feet high. if you have questions, email poozeyman@msn.com

News from Uptown - maitri - 9/1/05 4:13 ET
Matt Kirkham (on Prytania, just off of Jefferson) reports: On the apartment front, my place was virtually untouched. According to my landlord's son who stayed in the building, there was a small puddle under my door and my screen door blew away. This was as of 3:00 yesterday, but thenthe levee broke...
Fortunately for me, I live[d] Uptown by the university, Audobon Park and Zoo, and Audobon Place (a private street where the richest people in NOLA live) and, whether by coincidence or design, when they refer to 80% of NOLA being underwater, I'm in the 20% that's not. As of 3:00 yesterday there wasn't even a puddle. I'm also at least 7 feet above the road. Now, this could all change rapidly, but Wolf Blitzer (coolest Jewish name ever) is still saying "virtually" all of NOLA is underwater, so there is still hope. Also, the fact that we haven't heard ANYTHING about the University is also an encouraging sign (Tulane University hospital is no where near the University itself)since they usually don't air the good news.
Keep yourself informed or provide me with information at my blog:http://vatul.net/blog/
