Tulane
From New Orleans Wiki
A private, Carnegie Research I university and, prior to Katrina, the largest private employer in New Orleans.
President Scott Cowen dramatically reorganized the university in the months after Katrina. The engineering school was closed and all but two of its departments eliminated. Almost half the Ph.D. programs were eliminated. Other departments were closed. Newcomb College for women, and its parallel administrative structure, was eliminated. The university vowed to replace all part-time adjunct faculty with permanent "professors of practice," who would devote their energy to undergraduate teaching.
In an effort to adapt the university to the post-Katrina realities, public service became a requirement for all incoming students.
In order to provide a quality education to Tulane's faculty, the university adopted Lusher elementary and middle school as a charter school. Tulane also created Lusher High School, which will open in the fall of 2006.
