My mother was evacuated from Mid-City yesterday afternoon. It was, from her account pretty harrowing. Delgado main building on City park Blvd. is being used as a staging area. She and her friend made it there, where they were boated out to a section of the interstate that is not underwater, then bussed to baton rouge. While on the bus, her fellow passengers went through her bag and stole her money. All of it. Thank god they didn't take her needles or insulin. Anyway, the water around city park blvd. and orleans isn't very high, maybe mid-calf deep. There was some shooting heard and looting of homes on Tuesday night as this area was fairly dry. The closer you go toward carrollton from orleans the deeper the water. The winn dixie on Carrollton and Bienville was supposed to have had six feet of water. I hope this helps someone.
