Talk:French Quarter
From New Orleans Wiki
User:Urbanity: Did you add all categories, or where they their when you arrived? Did you copy and paste them? Just wondering if you're playing with the category mechanism. I'm learning about it myself. - ALan
User:Alan: I was thinking that "historic districts" would be a good category. Hmm... Would it be OK if I go back and add it to other historic district neighborhoods? - Sarah
- Sure. I'm reading some Wikipedia and other Wikis and trying to learn their way of doing things.
- Think we need to write a page on how to choose a category name, and when a category is warranted.
- Not like the site will collapse if there are almost empty categories, but I would like to avoid creating a great number of almost empty pages. I wouldn't want to create a page for each street in the hopes that someone would fill it in, because some visitors might think it was a big empty web site.
- That's what the red links are for. Click on this and write me.
- I'm just thinking out loud, not addressing anything that you are doing specifically. This writing is great.
- Saying that someone, probably me, needs to start writing guidelines, so we can point to them when someone does something silly. I fully expect someone to come by today and created pages like "This is Hilarious...", "Check This Out", or "Hey, Brian, Update on The Meeting Agenda". You know, act like it's email.
- Hey. I wanted to let you know that I talked with Kimberly and she was totally excited about the prospect of having her students edit the Wiki as their main project for the semester. Maybe we can talk about it in more detail sometime.
