[edit] Introduction
On September 27, 2005, a Task Force, established by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to address the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, called upon the Catholic Church Extension Society to coordinate a Parish Partnership Program.
Catholic Extension’s Parish Partnership Program provides a clearinghouse or central point of contact for connecting parishes across the country wishing to help the Gulf Coast parishes affected by the hurricanes. The damage is massive and the needs are extensive. This is an opportunity for all parishes to extend a helping hand to our sisters and brothers in need and show them that they will not be forgotten in the lengthy process of recovery and rebuilding.
Parishes wishing to “partner†with a Gulf Coast parish are free to determine the duration and extent of their support, whether a one-time gift or establishment of an immediate and long-term relationship of spiritual and material assistance. Donor parishes can be assured that all funds will be distributed as directed by them.
Catholic Extension will collect and distribute reports from the receiving parishes and/or dioceses on the use of donated funds to ensure that full donor intent is respected and carried out.

[edit] Guidelines
- After making a decision to become a “Parish Partner,†donor parish decides on size of financial commitment and duration of support.
- Parish Partnership Program Registration Form is completed by parish representative and sent to Catholic Extension. (Form also available online at www.catholicextension.org)
- Catholic Extension sends donor parish information to Gulf Coast dioceses. Diocese recommends a “parish partner†match and informs Catholic Extension.
- Catholic Extension presents donor parish with information on proposed “parish partner.â€
- Donor parish accepts “partner†match, reaffirms commitment and schedule for any further participation and sends gift for parish to Catholic Extension.
- Catholic Extension coordinates continuing distribution of full amount of donations to designated parish.
- Receiver parish and/or Catholic Extension notifies donor parish of receipt of each gift.
Note: While the Parish Partnership Program is primarily intended to facilitate financial gifts between parishes and provide accountability to donors, some parishes may wish instead to offer volunteers or goods or services. Catholic Extension would be pleased to assist by contacting appropriate Gulf Coast diocesan staff to identify parishes in need of such support. For this type of “match,†donor parishes, not Catholic Extension, would be responsible for further coordination and contact with receiving parishes.
