Yes. You are invited to the first New Orleans Geek Dinner, sponsored by Stormhoek. If you have found this page, you are geek enough. You have a computer in post-Katrina New Orleans. That's hard core!

[edit] Introduction

Starting with the Think New Orleans Geek Dinner with wine donated by Stormhoek, a South African vineyard, this page is called Geek Dinners, in anticipation of future events in the same vein.

The orignal New Orleans Geek Dinner postings can tell you more about this event, and you can read about it, and ask questions, leave comments at the Think New Orleans weblog.

Let's start this Geek Dinner by creating a bullet list of people that we want to attend, and a bullet list of people that have RSVP'd.

  • What: New Orleans Geek Dinner
  • When: Friday, July 14th, 2006 at 7:00 pm.
  • Where: 910 Esplanade Ave, French Quarter, New Orleans, LA

Enjoy the ghetto splendor of this lower Quarter courtyard. If you absolutely adore chlorine bring your swim trunks. Enjoy a cultural exchange with the Commonwealth of Independent States. Wifi generously provivded by the neighbor with the SIDD "wireless". Thank you!

In case of Internet failure, gird yourself for an enventing of analog Geekery. Sudoku anyone? Origami perhaps? Drinking games involving 3 sided dice?

What qualifies for geek in The Crescent City? Computer programmers, bloggers, VCR programmers, ham radio operators, those that can know where to locate the "any" key, or anyone who has a functional "electronic" mail address (the thing with the swirily 'a').

[edit] Time and Place

910 Esplanade Ave Apt 5, New Orleans, LA 70116 at 7:00 pm on Friday, July 13th, 2006.

[edit] Attendance List

[edit] Attending

If you are going to be at the dinner, please add your name to the list below. For bonus points, add a link to your web site, or leave your address and we'll turn it into a link for you. For super-plus brownie points, go to the bottom of the Geek Dinner page and add what food you're bringing to the shindig.

[edit] May Attend

  • Troy Gilbert (GulfSails) - Still hung over from the last meet & greet we had down in the Quarter.
  • Michael Homan (will try to be there after Kalypso's summer camp finale, say 8:30 ish)
  • Kalypso Homan (same deal as Michael Homan's)
  • Spasticrobot (also may be attending the Rising Tide function)
  • Sophmom (99.9% sure trip is on) (Update: Happily made it to New Orleans & planning to be there - still don't know what to feed geeks) (technically, geeks bite the heads off chickens. --ray)
  • slate (Would love to be there and will be if I can get my tired now-full-time-grandma/caretaker butt out the door. Seems like you're just around the block. I should be able to manage to hobble over there. Will try to figure out some food as well, but I my specialty is making reservations!)
  • ariana
  • Schroeder (if I get my ironing finished)
  • Rising Tide planners should try to drop by before the evening ends...

  • Maitri Venkat-Ramani: Chana Masala (North Indian dish with garbanzo beans and veggies), pita bread and non-alcoholic beverages to support my being on the wagon for a while.
  • Morwen Madrigal: Spring Potato Salad, nice and cold. Also thinking of bringing our ice chest with some sodas and beer.
  • George "Loki" Williams: Creole Jambalaya, made from scratch and cooked down with beer. Classic style. (Edit: 4pm, Bastille Day - I am running ragged. Had to deal with recently deceased Grandmother's estate today, unexpectedly at that, trying to get things together to cook, but might not have time to do so. Alexis, Chris, Dudley and I will be attending but food is a possible issue. If I cannot get the Jamb cooked before the dinner I will order Pizzas when I get there. Cross your fingers!)
