From the Cotton Mill Inbox, 16:50, 4 Sep 2005 - Alan Gutierrez
Lee and I live at the cottonmill apt and were in the city @3:00am saturday morning.
We went to the cottonmill with two heavily armed police men and tried to get into the building. All entrances we tried were locked. Sunray also was locked. There was no evidence of looting and no windows broken that we could see from the outside. There was no evidence of flooding. The area was bone dry. There were only 3-4 people that we saw around the building, Even the cars parked around the building were completely intact with no evidence of looting.
We were unable to stay long enough to get in b/c the police said it was not safe and also it was pitch black. We hoped to try to get Vegas but obviously could not get in. It is getting safer around the area, but they are not going to be able to send security to that area for a while, b/c they are still trying to evacuate people from that area.
Hopefully, once they are evacuated they can begin to check the surrounding area. We went by the convention center and it was the most disturbing sight I have ever seen or could imagine. I hope everyone is well.

I think they need to get a SECURITY company into the cottonmill as soon as possible to check for the damage and secure the property. My dog is still in there - except I bet the looters let him out. But the HRI people telling us that they are optimistic about minimal looting at the cotton mill are insane.
Cotton Mill Hotline by judybat, 9/3/05 19:15 ET - I just called the number-and was quite impressed that there was a human on the other end of the line at 6pm CST. Alot of the info he gave me has already been covered in this forum. He did say that anyone living under the penthouses on the third floor should maybe expect some water damage. He could not confirm or deny the looting reports, but from what he understood, much of the looting in the neighborhood was in the hotels. He said that it is of the utmost importance to HRI to get residents information, to get back to the building, and to make all necessary repairs as quickly as possible. He sounded very sincere. According to him, Christina will be contacting us in the near future. Here's hoping the good news is true and that the damage is as minimal as it seems.
