Hospital evacuation update Friday 9:30 p.m.

The total evacuation of the 2,200 storm-stranded patients and staff at Charity and University hospitals is now complete, a top hospital official said Friday night.

FEMA evacuated the patients to hospitals across the region, and staff were taken to shelters and other locations.

Evacuated People in NO hospitals may be in Lafayette. by tool1130, 9/1/05 20:22 ET I talked to someone who works at SouthWest Medical in Lafayette, La and she said they have been taking in patients from Tulane and Charity in New Orleans and maybe some others. She also said that some nurses came too so if someone is looking for people that were in the hospitals you might want to call SouthWest the number is 337-981-2949.

charity hospital update - by jlg10021, 9/1/05 10:14 ET - I spoke to my sister this morning (7am 9/1/05) who is an ER nurse at Charity and she is OK. They are safe and waiting to be evacuated to either Baton Rouge or Houston. FEMA is there and they have begun to move the patients. She said that they are all safe, but the first floor is flooded. She has been calling me regularly, but the phone lines would be down soon.I don't know much about about Tulane Hospital, but she did say that they had begun evacuations as well. You can leave voicemails on cell phones. Does anybody know anything about Gentilly Veterinary Hospital in New Orleans East on Read Lane?
