The Unedited Version of Eddie Jordan’s Hissy Fit on ABC’s Nightline
A few of the New Orleans bloggers are gearing up on the resignation of District Attorney Eddie Jordan. They feel that that 7% felony conviction rate, the murderers released because of the failure to press charges (701 releases), and the dismissal of two high-profile murder cases in as many weeks serve as indicators that Eddie Jordan is not fit to be District Attorney.
In the request to attend the protest at the Cabillo this morning, they made reference to an interview with investigative reporter Brian Ross that aired on ABC’s Nightline. However, they linked to an edited version of the interview as it appeared in the Nightline episode. If you watch this clip, Eddie Jordan may come across as quick tempered, but not altogether infantile.
The unedited version completes the image.
Here Brian Ross shows us the unedited Eddie Jordan. In his Nightline piece you can hear the question that he asked, which stemmed from an earlier statement by Alberto Gonzales. There is from the transcript of the interview as it played on Nightline.
Jordan told Ross his questions were “stupid,” when Ross asked Jordan to respond to a comment made by U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales in an ABC News interview earlier this week. “You need to have an effective police department, you need to have the courts operating effectively, you need to have a local prosecutor who is doing his job,” he said.
Brian Ross: Do you think he’s talking about you?
Eddie Jordan: No, because we’re doing our job and I have the evidence to support it.
Brian Ross: You don’t take this then as a criticism from Washington?
Eddie Jordan: I don’t take this as a criticism from Washington because, as I’ve said before, we are taking care of our responsibility. This is ignorance and stupidity on the part of people who don’t know how our system works.
The video above is what was edited out of the interview, but you need to know that the question was not at all stupid. It was posed by the US Attorney General. This was a chance to refute the thinly-veiled accusation, not personify it. The video picks up from the last sentence above.
After you watch the video, tell me, what is your favorite exchange?
Eddie Jordan: You didn’t get the facts about the number of cases we have…
Brian Ross: Please do. Please do. Please give me all the facts you can.
Eddie Jordan: Well, I, I didn’t come prepared with all that stuff.
That’s the District Attorney we’ve come to know and feel very strongly about.
By far my favorite part of the unedited video are Eddie Jordan’s parting words to Brian Ross.
