Think New Orleans

Outreach and Communications

August 12th, 2006

After attending a very distrubing meeting on Communications and Outreach, Forest Bradley-Wright wrote up a communications and outreach document that nobody can deny. He wrote it in Word. He emailed it to a long list of people. He invited them to ammend the document and return it to him.

I put it on the Wiki, of course. This is how it works.

  • Read Forest’s Outreach and Communications Strategy at the New Orleans Wiki.
  • Leave any comments you might have in this forum.
  • If you want to ammend the document at the New Orleans Wiki, click the “edit” link nearest the section you want to change. You will see an editing box with the text for the section. Make your changes. Click “Save Changes”. Don’t worry, we can always undo mistakes.

In a phone call with Forest, we touched on a few key things, regarding the use of the Internet.

  • The New Orleans Wiki can be whatever you want it to be, including a clearing house for planning information, which is what it is becoming.
  • People will respond to the organiztion that shows progress.

At this point, I’m going to allow the rest of my ideas to come out in the comments section of this post, in conversation with people who are sincerely interested in effective outreach.

The wiki page might benefit from a bit of context. What is this document, where does it come from, etc. I’d add that myself but I’m not actually 100% clear.

It was written up by Forest Bradley-Wright after the meeting at Concordia. I’m not sure what prompted him to write it. Perhaps, frustration at the nature of the meeting, we’ll have to ask him.

I’ll make him aware of your comment. Perhaps, he can provide the context you seek.
