Oliver Thomas: Where Do I Send the Flowers?
Fill in the Blanks by Alan Gutierrez.
Read Frank Doonze piece on Oliver Thomas’ trip up the river. You’d you’d think that it was a eulogy. The last mean of red beans and more heartfelt statements of regret.
And then there is us, the unforgiving. In Oliver Thomas enters prison today he writes:
An affable, gregarious personality who appealed to voters across racial lines, Thomas, who is African-American, enjoyed an outpouring of support from some quarters after he admitted accepting the illegal payments. But he was derided by many others, who denounced him in Web blogs [sic] and letters to the editor as the latest corrupt figure to be brought down by federal investigators.
That is because he was the latest corrupt figure to be brought down by federal investigators. Among those Web blogs and letters to the editor denouncing Thomas you’ll find the Times-Picayune editorial staff.
We were all disappointed in Thomas for taking the bribes, but the refusal to talk with the federal authorities about the criminal activities he knew about was appalling.

Markey-Marc has instilled a level of omerta in these guys that Carlos Marcello could have only dreamed of.
