MCNO and Fredric Schwartz
In this interview, Virginia Blanque asks Fredric Schwartz and Carlton Brown some tough quesitons about outreach. The planners suggested that the Rockefeller Foundation fund a singular outreach effort for displaced New Orleanians from all of the city’s planning districts, utilizing block associations and neighborhood groups to locate displaced people. They proposed that special meetings be held in cities where large numbers of New Orleanians are currently living, encouraging interaction between citizens and planners. Blanque then asked the planners to describe their strategies for dealing with Mid-City’s many public housing developments. Both planners pointed to their firm’s extensive work with New York’s housing authority, with which they have implemented projects that blend mixed-income housing with job training programs and other social services.
