Coldcocked: Lee Zurik Looks at Mayor Nagin’s Leisure Time in Office and Nagin Says It’s Personal
Our Mayor C. Ray Nagin has now threated to “coldcock” his critics.
Watch this interview Nagin blasts local media.
Using self-serving logic, Nagin argues that the evil of the Internet threatens him and his family and publishing information about his 2007 travel schedule puts him and his family in danger.
Does he believe this? Probably, yes. He seems to have convinced himself.
At the same time, he’s obviously very upset that someone is going to be looking at his workdays in 2007 and accounting for how he spends his time in office.
He mashes up all his critics and equates them with the lowest common denominator.
There are a number of choice quotes, emphasis mine.
You put my personal schedule out there I am coming back to this station and me an your news director are going to be outside in the parking lot having a good one on one.
Outside in the parking lot? The idea is that his schedule from last year will be used to analyze the patterns of his travel to compromise his security.
I have been busting by butt to bring this city back. We’re getting ready to get into 2008. It’s going to be more than a tipping point. This city will go to the next level. And this is ridiculous. It’s personal. It’s vindictive. The election is over. If you supported somebody else, get over it.
Again with the tipping point and the new level. Not at all aware of how his administration is perceived.
You know what, I don’t know. I don’t know. Nobody has ever done this. Nobody has taken a city from being totally devastated to where we are right now.
Where are we right now exactly?
He realizes that he’s alienated most of the influential people in the city, and most of the less influential people, such as myself.
Your news cast and the local newspapers are feeding these awful, ugly talk shows, that are feeding these blogs. You go look at these some of these blogs out there and some of the stories that come from the paper and you read the comments, it’s the most vile angry people that I’ve ever seen in this community.
This is a common misconception in New Orleans, that the bloggers are the rabble. The city newspaper’s website, NOLA.com, is entirely unmoderated. NOLA.com calls these free-for-alls blogs.
Maitri Venkat-Ramani writes about this pheonomina often as she did in Day 619: Mainstream Media Blogs.
It makes people using social media for recovery communications look bad. The New Orleans Bloggers are people who are doing real research and conducting a real dialog. The NOLA.com “blogs” are a wasteland of racist bile.
Both Sally and Eric asked questions and follow ups. What about other people in the hot seat? Do you really take this personally? Eric asked if Nagin was really afraid for his safety.
Well, I’ve got coverage. And somebody approach me wrong, I’m going to coldcock ‘em. That’s the bottom line. You can come with that foolishness if you want, but you’re going to see a side of Ray Nagin that you haven’t seen.
Nagin’s anger is quite pronounced. He’s really upset this time.
Do you think there’s anything we could do to make it easier on him?

Yeah, someone (perhaps from Gentilly’s list of ohso nola bloggers) could throw a pie in C. Ray’s face, whatever side, everywhere he goes!
You rock.
Poisinally I have always considered your blog as more of the “factivists” type, which is why I am a fan. Facts are important. Facts are our friends. Facts matter when the Fat Lady sings.
Rumor has it that a mayoral job might be opening up in Detroit. That attitude might actually get him votes there.
