Think New Orleans

Building Humid City

May 13th, 2006

Loki posted a list of WordPress extensions that caught his eye over at Alan’s Blogometer. Such insight is greatly appreciated, so I thought I’d pull it out of comment section in which it was buried, and post it here, were we can all discuss new enhancements to the WordPress weblogs in the New Orleans blogging community.

Query: Thses plug ins have caught my eye. I have listed them in order of importance (The LJ crossposter is a high priority for me.) Will these (or analogs thereof) be compatible with what you are already implementing?

Maitri and I were discussing a plugin that lets you subscribe to track a particular discussion in a blog entry’s comments via email.

As I get Humid City ready for it’s launch I do need to prod you about the voice posting and the LJ crossposting. I have already set up the companion LJ community for Humid City and am gearing up to get both off the ground simultaneously (if possible).

Obviously I like them, I suggested them. Ah, well, back to tightening up HC…. (Alan, give me a call at home when you get the chance.)

Voice posting can be done with podPress and Odeo. I will look also at the plugin you suggested above.

It is only a matter of time. Cross-posting to LJ is the right thing to do, and if the plugin you suggested does not do it, we’ll create one that will.

Fantastic. Humid City is humming along, and you were right- I love the interface! I do need to drag my feed subscribers over from the old site, but most everything else I can do myself.

The calendar is one of my new favorite toys! That is exactly what I have been looking for! Trying to get a good firt round of events listed on it, if you run across any let me know (it would have been interesting to list the Brainjammers thing..).

Let me know what you think over the next several days as I implement my content. I’m sure I will have a few questions and comments before I am done..

Your existing FeedBlitz subscribers have been imported into your new HumidCity feed. You should see the results in your email subscription count chicklet. Sent you some email too.

Next up on your agenda is the LiveJournal cross-poster.
