David Coustan is going to come town this weekend. We’ve been kicking around plans for the next Geek Dinner, but they have been kicked to hard and need February to convalesce.
Thanks. To summarize from over there, keep working on organizing the next full geek dinner for March, and in the meantime me and Ken will still be coming to town this weekend. We’ll be having a totally informal, stop-by-and-say-hi meetup at Liuzza’s on Bienville — Friday night at 7pm. All are welcome.
Come on down to Liuzza’s on Bienville. Who all is going to be there?

When do we we want to have the next Geek Dinner? Where do we want to have it?

No photographs yet, because I didn’t bring my camera. The New Orleans bloggers has a dinner with Earthlink’s Earthling, Dave Coustan, where we talked about the city, the recovery, and the boon to communications that would come from having a muni-Wifi.

Stormhoek did send us wine for our last Geek Dinner. It arrived on time. For some reason, we didn’t get our hands on it until the day after. So, we’ve got a lot of wine left. We need to drink it.
Thus, we’re all having a Geek Dinner this weekend. This is one is also sponsored by Stormhoek. It’s also sponsored by 504 Data.Com, a start up venture of George Williams. You can learn all about the latest Geek Dinner at his web site, Humid City.
The first one was a dry run. (Actually, we had a lot of beer and Margaritas.) Thank you to Stormhoek for giving us cause to gather as geeks. On Sunday, we’ll finally be thanking you for the wine.
Thanks, of course, to George Williams for putting this latest Geek Dinner together.
Update: Express your interest at the Geek Dinners page of the New Orleans Wiki.

The first New Orleans Geek Dinner was a whole bunch of fun. The bloggers in attendance have all be writing about it. George, Maitri, Kalypso, Abrastos, Oyster, Dangerblonde, Schroder. There were many more people there, so look for more new entries on the Geek Dinner, as I get caught up in my feed reader. Thank you all for attending. I can’t tell you how happy I am to have you all visit.

Vince Keenan of the Publius Foundation and old friend and a major contributor to my efforts in New Orleans, will be attending the New Orleans Geek Dinner at [910 Esplanade]. I’ve told Vince that this would be an excellent opportunity to meet people that are articulate and well-informed, who can talk about the state of Democracy and the Internet in New Orleans. Vince has experience developing Internet and computer initiatives in Detroit K-12 schools, and even more expererience with voter information and education web sites.

The New Orleans Geek Dinner will be held at [910 Esplanade Ave], on Friday, July 14th, 2006. Wine will be provided by Stormhoek, and we’ll call this the Stormhoek sponsored New Orleans Geek Dinner, for that kindness.
It’s a pot luck. Bring food. Dont’ think for a minute that I can cook. (I’ll cook anyway.)
If you’re up for it, and you absolutely adore chlorine, you can swim in the pool.
R.S.V.P. Make sure that you are included under attending the Geek Dinners page of the New Orleans Wiki.
Update: Time is at 7:00 pm.

Could someone please help me out by looking into the status of the Stormhoek Geek Dinner promotion. How do we go about getting ahold of the wine? They recenlty held one of the Geek Dinners in Arkansas. It is underway. We were discussing the New Orleans Geek Dinner way back in March.

I’ve signed us up for a geek dinner over at Hugh’s blog.
This is a dinner where the wine is provided by Stormhoek, a South African vinyard.
Hugh introduces the idea in his blog bost 100 Geek Dinners, where he quotes Jason the Stormhoek blog:
bq.. We’ll supply the wine, the bloggers supply the people and the conversation. The events don’t have to be big, or at a fancy place, we imagine that they could be anywhere- a bar, a porch, a beach, park, whatever, so don’t limit yourself to a restaurant.
Sure, we want this to be about bloggers, although anyone who wants to invite a supermodel, rock star or pro athlete along is welcome to do so. We just want the events to be interesting. The local organizer will set the rules for the event, so please use your imagination. As usual, there is no need to blog or post pics about Stormhoek, but we do ask that you email us some pics of the event, because we’d like to have mementos of the dinners, maybe to post later.
p. I’ve added us as number 56 in the list at Hugh’s Wiki entry on the dinner. Trackback or comment if you’d like to attend. I’d love a suggestion for a place that allows you to bring your own bottle. I’m thinking Lola’s, but they may be too small.
We also need a date and a topic. Who’s available when? What shall we discuss? Rebuilding or lighter things?
*Update*: The New Orleans Geek Dinner will be held at “910 Esplanade Ave”:http://maps.google.com/maps?q=910+Esplanade+Ave%2C+New+Orleans%2C+LA, on Friday, July 14th, 2006. Wine will be provided by Stormhoek, and we’ll call this the Stormhoek sponsored New Orleans Geek Dinner, for that kindness.
