Make Think New Orleans a Real Nonprofit (and Get It Through The Month)

April 16th, 2007

Times are tight, since the funding fell through with Blue Moon Fund. I’ve been working on new projects, but the payment schedules are not yet keeping pace with the bills.

I’ve been managing my finances down to the penny, and tracking them day by day. The bill for the server that Think New Orleans and the neighborhood blogs came due three days earlier than I expected. It debited my account automatically, for $79.99, and now I’m overdrawn. Very scary.

Think New Orleans has few expenses beyond my own time. There are domain names of the neighborhood websites that have begun to come due, because the workshops began about this time last year. The server that hosts Think New Orleans and the neighborhood blogs is separate from my own personal blog. It is $79.99 a month.

I’d like to cover the cost of the server and put back the overdraft fee.

I’ve included the costs of forming a Louisiana nonprofit. I’m in the process of filing papers with the Louisiana Secretary of State. Those papers have fees. The papers for the IRS have fees.

Please contribute today. The first $79.99 will go directly toward server, which is money I need dearly.

Think New Orleans is not a nonprofit yet, so it will go into my own account. You’ll have to trust me that I’ll spend the money on Think related expenses described above.

Help Make Think New Orleans a Real Nonprofit

Alan at ThinkNOLA has hit a tough spot. Head over to the ThinkNOLA Blog and donate some cash to get him and the server through not just this month, but help make ThinkNOLA a real non-profit.

Without knowing anything about your set-up, $79/month for server hosting seems a bit steep. Can you sacrifice some horsepower and whittle that down? My Ruby development site runs about $10/month, and that’s the third-highest tier of service (out of five, running between $4-$20 monthly.)

[...] I’m using a Chip In control to gather some money to incorporate Think New Orleans. It quickly raised $250.00. Then it scrolled off the page and people cannot see it. I’m impressed with how quickly it gathered as much as it gathered, but I am not suprised. This is a great way to raise money. [...]
