A MacBook for Suspect Device
Never one to know how to tactfully mention that which I do not, myself, want to hear, I’ll link to the Greg Peters blog post, where he breaks the news of his health.
Rebecca Stephenson, Maitri and I have created a fundable account to purchase Greg Peters a 2.0 GHz MacBook. Fifty-two pledges of $25.00 will keep him connected and creative during his time in hospital.
Here is the link to the Fundable.org action.
I’m sure that we can raise the money in a few days, before he heads off to Cleveland.
Here is the computer we’d like to finance.
It’s a one-step-up MacBook that will have enough oomph for him to run his graphics applications and burn DVDs. It’s a bit nicer than basic because graphics applications are piggy.
The $25.00 suggested donation would be like buying him a nice lunch. And who wouldn’t want to have lunch with Greg Peters. He’ll be able to keep cranking out the art and humor.
Blog about it, why don’t you? Link directly to the Fundable Group Action.
Update: Ashley Morris kicks in with acedemic pricing and more PowerBook RAM.
Update: It’s 8:26 AM. We’re past the 1/4 mark.
Update: It’s 11:20 AM. Not even noon. We’re past the 1/2 mark.
Update: It’s 4:21 PM. We’re at the 3/4 mark.
Update: Whoa! Slow down. We’ve overshot the mark. We now have $1,450. Now we must figure out how to get the money out of Fundable, so be patient.
Update: Today is the day that I wail and gnash my teeth and ask myself, why did I use Fundable.org? What ever possessed me to take this confusing and torturous path to perform the simple task of fundraising?
We’ve gathered $1,750 in pledges to purchase a laptop for Greg Peters of Suspect Device. I’d set a goal of $1,300 and that goal has been met. To the best of my understanding, I choose the option Continue Accepting Pledges.
This makes it so your group does not stop collecting pledges the moment you hit your target total. Instead, this allows you to raise an unlimited amount until your deadline.
The deadline is December 9th, which means, I suppose, that money for the laptop will not be disbursed until after that date. Greg leaves for Clevland next week. There is no option now to stop the collection and take the money now.
I’ve written Fundable, and I’ve callled them twice today. They have not returned my call.
This was a horrible decision on my part to use this service. I am very sorry to everyone who contributed their money. We are stuck now, because in December, they will charge all our credit cards, if they haven’t already. They don’t want to talk about it.
I’m sure that they are going to punish me for not following instructions.
It would have been so much better to put up a PayPal link and to report the progress in my blog. I don’t think anyone doubts my reporting, and besides, I’d simply share my PayPal account login with Rebecca and Maitri so that no one would dare question. It would have been a much easier way to do this sort of fund rasing. If it a matter of trust, we have a community of trustworthy people.
My rationale was that, for the cost, the 7% of $1,300 was $91.00 and that Maitri and I would cover it, to save time and make use of a ready solution. Now we’re losing time and have a huge problem.
Update: It’s all good. The guys from Fundable called me. They pressed a button and sent the money on it’s way. $1,725 toward a MacBook. You all went over. Now it’s up to Ashely and Maitri to make the purchase and delivery.

That mean you give me “special dance”?
Got a response from fundable, asking for more info and pledging to take care of things right away — forwarded to Alan and Maitri (writing the President and the CEO and using words like FBI tends to get their attention). I think it will all work out. Their system is very complicated, with poorly organized information on the website, but I don’t think they’re scam artists. Although, hell, I never thought this country would re-elect W, and look what happened there.
We want to help but I’m not quite sure what to do next. Please advise! Also, if you’re still trying to figure out how to get the $$ out in time, I may have a solution for that……cfm

We got a MacBook and I’m sure it’s ready to get going out the Cleveland.
Last night, I handed Maitri a 2.0 GHz, 1GB RAM, 120GB HD Black MacBook to take to Greggy-Poo.
Huzzah!
BTW, M V-R contributed an extra 4 bucks to cover the total. There was no more money left in the kitty for lapdances. Sigh.
You guys are the best!
You would not beLIEVE how fast this thing downloads teh pr0n!
