Civic Blogging Platform

May 3rd, 2006

I have created a platform for civic blogging. It is based on WordPress. It is a WordPress blog with a selection of WordPress plugins, along with the help of a couple of online services.

An example of a plugin is the event calendar. It creates an event calendar by looking for special posts that are in the category Event.

An example of an online service is FeedBlitz. That is the service that publishes this blog to email, making it not only a weblog, but an email newsletter.

Combining these different plugins and services creates a nice weblog that is accessable to citizens in many different ways.

At the root of everything is the basic unit of blogging, the blog entry. It’s a lot like email. If you can choose a title and write a message, you have the skills necessary to use this platform.

Over the course of next few days, I’m going to tell you more about this civic blogging platform, what I’m learning about how people use the Internet in our fair city, and listen to your feedback and experiences.
