Link Think New Orleans
This is a viral linking campaign for Think New Orleans. With a viral linking campaign, bloggers link to other bloggers. The linkee will discover the linker through the trackback mechanism that is built into their blogging software.
First, let me thank Esoos Bobnar and Irish Wonder for putting me onto the Indie Virus. Then I have to thank Chris Pearson for creating the whole concept.
Here are the simple instructions for Link Think New Orleans.
- Check your trackbacks and see that you’ve been linked.
- Write a post that tells us some little thing about yourself.
- In the post link to this article with a link that say Link Think New Orleans.
- Link to two other New Orleans bloggers with a link that says New Orleans Blogger. Make sure you link to a blog entry permalink, as suggested reading, rather than the blog main page.
Who is a New Orleans Blogger? Anyone who is blogging about New Orleans. You don’t have to be a resident or evacuee. Simply someone who’s keeping the New Orleans information flowing.
What should you say in your post? Don’t agonize over it. If you’re available to help people in New Orleans by organizing their information, let us know. If you have an idea for The Software Suggestion Box, chime in.
I’m going to start this off by linking to the New Orleans Blogger, b.rox who’s rebuilding his home and has an excellent Flickr photo stream, and follow up by linking to the New Orleans Blogger Polimom Says.
Here is a self-referential link to Link Think New Orleans.
UPDATE: For those of you who do not know what a trackback is, here is is a definition of Trackback at Wikipedia, and a sample trackback session in a MoveableType blog. The first two comments for this blog entry are examples of trackbacks. We need trackbacks. They are an important part of collaborative blogging. We need to make sure that all NOLA bloggers have their trackbacks enabled. If they are using Blogger or Blogspot, which do not support trackbacks, we need to set them up with a special commenting tool, like Haloscan.

We have started a campaign to pressure Bush to fund the levees and bring attention to the issue.
We are asking people to Send their Mardi Gras beads (any beads will do) to Bush with a short message rearding the funding of levees.
You can get info here….Send Your Beads to Bush
We hope you’ll pass this along and get involved. We need pictures of people getting their beads ready to send. We will be posting them. You can send them or any questions to scoutp@charter.net
(I still haven’t figured out trackbacks_)
I didn’t really get the trackback thing either… never saw much point to it. I guess if there’s some good reason to use them, I could look into it…
