Seeking Podcasting Pointers

The Voice of New Orleans

We now have four French Quarter Town Hall meetings, and two 9th Ward Home Owners Association Meetings recorded digitally. I’ve posted the most recent French Quarter Town Hall meeting in it’s entirety here on Think New Orleans.

The meeting was not posted as a Podcast, it is not part of the syndicated feed, because it seemed much to long a download.

Christian has extracted all of the candidate statements, the often humorous opening statements of Harry Anderson, and the sharper pieces of the guest commentary.

I’m beginning to place these online as Podcasts, placing them in the syndicated feed. Their smaller size seems suitable for automatic downloading. The lenghs of the Podcasts seems reasonable for a playlist.

Podcasting Questions

The details of Podcasting are lost on me, however. What is an appropriate size for a Podcast? What sort of compression does one use? What is an appropriate length? Any pointers on the technical details and best practices of Podcasting are welcome.

What do you want to hear in a Podcast? Should we add intros and voice overs or simply do our best to edit for context?

Keep in mind that this is a labor of love, so if you know something about Podcasting and you’d like to help, we’d be most grateful.
